'Teratoma' the new Rob Zombie film.

Mon Aug 17, 2009, 2:35 PM
Well, friends and acquaintances I'll be going into surgery tomorrow, so may not be around for a while. A week ago I had a CT scan and it wasn't kidney stones!! but they did find a rather large mass, 27cm(about 10 and a bit inches?) to be precise. They believe it's a teratoma and all indications are that it is benign. Now if you want to see freaky just wiki 'teratoma'!! At least it's something freakishly interesting. It's built up to contain about 5ltrs of fluid as well as other assorted flotsam and jetsam, hence the constant pain and my appearance of being about 8 months pregnant at the moment.

The upside is that after surgery I will have lost about 2 dress sizes and the morphine has been keeping the edge off the pain. It did cross my mind to request they put it in a preserving jar (well bucket) thinking it may be an interesting subject to paint in the future, but I really couldn't handle the odd looks from people who will be cutting me open.

The down side is the fear of the unknown (I have never been to hospital before, but to have my baby)and being concerned about how my baby, mind you he is 16, will cope. He has been my rock, learnt to cook, been cleaning and watching me like a hawk. He is where I find my grace.

Anyway, take care all. See you again soon with more paintings when I can.

Love, Strength ,Grace and Wisdom my friends
xxxxxx

something i've noticed recently is your color pallet within specific paintings is that it seems that you choose a certain color and bring it to highs and lows using darks/lights but it's mostly constrained within that range. obviously it's not trichromatic but i'm curious about what you think about the use of color in your recent work.

Failure can be acceptable. What is not acceptable is to lack the courage to try.

I know my pallet is very limited compared to my earlier work. Colour has always been a major factor in my paintings but recently my focus has been very much on brush stroke, texture, composition and contrast so I think I have naturally limited my pallet in order to place emphasis on, and develop, those factors. Another reason is that most of my work is in oils recently and because I am a rather impatient painter working with a limited pallet allows me not to muddy the colours that are not dry enough to paint over. I know I will be back into colour again soon though. I can't avoid it :) Oh, another reason is oils are so damn expensive, and I be very very poor atm so I can't afford all the colours I would really like, though I have always been a mixer of my own colours anyway.

It's so nice to have someone who has watched the progression of my work for so long that they actually noticed :) thank you, you sweet guy you.

Hope all is travelling smoothly along for you Vin. Stay Gold!
